about

This song was originally an idea requested by the United Nations intended to be about indigenous culture. After much existential pondering and soul searching, this is what eventually came out! A conversation between two slightly different (yet, more similar than they thought) humans. (Featuring Charlie's mum, Marsha as Human #2)

lyrics

I’m a human
Check me out, I’m in complete control!
I’m a human
Fuelled by oil and gas and coal

Obey my instructions
Yeah you’d better do just what I say
I’m bringin’ destruction
So go on get outta my way

Cos I’m a human
All consumin’
Man, I’m fumin…

(Human 2 - Spoken):
Hey man, what’s up? Why you making such a big mess? What’s the problem?

(Human 1 - Spoken):
Who do you think you are?

(Human 2):
Who am I? Man we’re not so different… listen

I’m a human….
But I’m part of something so much bigger than me
Just one bud blooming
from the branches of my ances-tree

Roots in the ground
I’m a faithful lover of this land
I’m stickin around
Cos I’m here for more than just a one-life stand

Yeah I’m a human
An old-school human
I love being human… that’s who I am.

(Human 1 - Spoken):
What’s the matter with you? Can’t you see there’s money to be made?

(Human 2 - Spoken):
Money? Brother, we‘ve got everything we need right here. Just relax.

(Human 1):
Relax? Relax?! I’m too stressed out to relax! I’m freakin out!

How did I get here?

(Human 2):
I guess somewhere you must’ve gone off track

(Human 1):
Gotta get my head clear

(Human 2):
Maybe I can help to guide you back

(Human 1):
I wanna be human

(Human 2):
You could start by switching off your screen

(Human 1):
I wanna be human

(Human 2):
Don’t worry…
You’ll be the finest human anyone's seen

(Together):
Being human
Well, you know it’s not a bad career
Just be human
Driven by love, not fear

We gotta be human
Be human
Human.
