HOW TO REDUCE PLASTIC

Did you know that in the Pacific Ocean there is a floating island of plastic the size of a small country!?

Think of 5 ways YOU can help to reduce the amount of plastic in the world.

Here are some ideas:

- Take your canvas bags to the market or use a cardboard box

- Refill old water bottles or carry a non-disposable one

- Buy bulk foods instead of packaged food

- Upcycle rubbish into useful things

- Wrap your lunch in biodegradable materials

- Drink out of a washable mug instead of plastic cups.

- Plan a plastic-free day/week/month/year

- Learn to say “I don’t need a bag, thanks”

lyrics

There’s this stuff that’s everywhere
I can see it right here and over there
It comes from deep below the ground
And we spend a lot of time just spreading it round

I’m talkin’ bout plastic
It’s not fantastic
Cos it never ever goes away
Don’t wanna use it
We’ve got to lose it
Because otherwise it’ll be here to stay

I had this friend who got a snack
That came all wrapped up in a plastic sack
I said ‘Dude! Just nude your food!’
If it comes in plastic, take it back

Because plastic
It’s not fantastic
And it’s always gonna cost more cash
Don’t wanna use it
We’ve got to lose it
Cos it always ends up in the trash

What can you do instead of wrapping up your food in plastic?
You can refuse and say “Pretty pretty please don’t bag it”
Get a water bottle made of metal take it, make it a habit
Cos we don’t wanna end up on a desert planet swimming in plastic

Because plastic
It ain’t fantastic
And we’ve got a load of better ways
Don’t wanna use it,
We’ve got to lose it
C’mon, make today a no plastic day!
